ABOUT US

The Student Public Relations Association (SPRA) is open to students from all majors at William Paterson University. Our mission is to raise awareness of the multi-dimensional uses and benefits of public relations skills to virtually all industries and interest areas. The Association works to educate the WP community about the advantages of effective integrated marketing communication, social media, strategic communication, and public relations.

Members of the SPRA share and build professional skills through workshops, webinars,  networking, career and internship events, alumni mentoring, field trips to NYC, and writing content for our social media platforms and the web based Power PR Report.   As a benefit to all WP students and alumni,  SPRA recently formed a collaborative partnership with WP's Career Center to expland our most popular campus -wide annual initiatives:

  • PR, Social Media & Marketing Internship & Career Fair

  • SPRA Alumni Mixer and Speed Networking

The club joined forces with our BA in Public Relations program faculty and the Social Media Applications, Research, Teaching (SMART) Lab team to streamline our guest speaker visits via the newly rebranded:

  • PROfessional SMART Workshop & Seminar Series

The SPRA helps clubs and organizations both on and off campus by providing guidance for strategic integrated marketing communication planning.   The club has supported cause-related initiatives like voter registration, career development, stress & mental health awareness, Toys for Tots, the Special Olympics of New Jersey.

Our goal is to serve the WP community by creating and implementing real integrated marketing communication campaigns.  The Association is available to create public relations programs for select causes and issues of interest to the University community.

Hello, my name is Sahira Duran.

I’m originally from the Dominican Republic but have been living in Haledon, NJ for the past 10 years. I’m majoring in Media Production with minors in Business and Public Relations. I used to participate in art competitions from a young age and won an International Drawing Award in 2011. I joined the club to widen my knowledge in PR and to learn more about networking and how to market myself.  I'm serving as SPRA's production coordinator and manage our photography and video productions for the site and socials.

Hello my name is Vanessa Jaramillo and I am a Senior year BFA Graphic Design student with a minor in Public Relations. I create artwork for my town in North Arlington for close to four years now. I enjoy making designs that are expressive and unique. My work has now shifted to show my Hispanic heritage, as my parents are from Ecuador. I am interested in editorial design work and hope to integrate that in future jobs. I joined SPRA Club because I wanted to connect more to my PR minor and network. I also wanted to meet others with the same interests in the field. I am SPRA's social media director and have designed club rebranding materials.
