So, you are considering to be a Public Relations major here at William Paterson? Well, you chose the right track! PR at WPUNJ is so enjoyable, diverse, and inspiring. The courses here are enjoyable because the content in each has a strong element of real-world experiences while doing hands-on work. Plus many of the extraordinary professors in our department come from a variety of regions throughout the world, making it incredibly diverse. What makes the courses the school has to offer the most inspiring aspect of being a PR major is the level of reflection and retention you get from taking them.
After completing your 40 university core curriculum required credits and world language requirement, you will begin your PR core credits. There are 21 required credits. Within those core, there is COMM 1190 Survey of Communication Studies and Practice Credits, COMM 1200 Media and Society, COMM 2100 Media Writing, COMM 2220 Media Ethics and Law, COMM 2260 Video Production and Editing, COMM 2490 Research Methods in Applied Communication, and COMM 2500 Journalism.
There are 3 three essential courses for every PR major to complete to graduate. Those being COMM 3480 Public Relations, COMM 4480 Public Relations Case Studies, and COMM 4490 Public Relations Workshop.
There are 6 elective requirements with a wide range of selections to pick from. COMM 2550 Publication Design, COMM 2600 Oral Interpretation, COMM 2630 Public Speaking, COMM 2640 Voice/Speech Production, COMM 2880 News Literacy, COMM 3300 Internship – External, COMM 3301 Internship – Internal, COMM 3490 Radio News, COMM 3520 Broadcast Advertising, COMM 3540 Sports Writing, COMM 3610 Successful Business and Professional Communication, COMM 4510 Freelance Writing, COMM 4540 News Editing, COMM 4590 Journalism Field Study, MGT 2000 Principles of Management, MKT 2100 Principles of Marketing, and POL 2400 International Relations.
After completing your selected courses, every PR major is expected to complete COMM 4453 Communication Capstone. This course is known as your final thesis.
