Five Tips For Staying Productive During COVID-19

With the world we are living in, it can be hard for young students to advance in their careers. Stuck at home, everything happening online, it can be easy to feel like you have fallen into a rut. Luckily, there are a few easy ways to fix that!

Although you may be home, there are plenty of chances for keeping up to date with your Public Relations Career! Today, I’ll be sharing a few helpful tips for you to do just that!

# 1: Update Your Resume

Keeping your resume up to date will come in handy when looking for jobs and internships. There are still plenty of opportunities out there, so ensuring your resume has all of your latest skills, work experiences, and references will help you to be confident as you show it to possible employers! Do not be afraid to show your resume to others in order to get some feedback, it always helps to give it a fresh pair of eyes!

#2: Pick Up New Skills

Public Relations is an ever changing constantly flowing world. There are always new concepts being introduced or new software that will be helpful for the work you do. Take some time to look into various programs, software, tutorials, and anything that will allow you to build a new skill to add to your resume! The more versatile you are, the more appealing you will be to employers in this rather competitive field. Giving yourself the chance to advance and become stronger in your skillset is always a good idea!

#3: Never Stop Networking!

Although you are home, there are still ample opportunities to network with fellow peers, professors, and professionals around you. Take the time to reach out and talk to those who have previously or are currently working in your field, you never know who may be able to open doors for you! Make that call you’ve been putting off, send the email you’ve been waiting on. Take this extra time you have to connect!

#4: Update Your Linked In!

Linked in is an excellent resource for anyone looking to make connections. Not only can you connect with others and network, but it allows you to create a professional presence online. This presence can help you gain the attention of future employers and connect you to jobs or internships!

#5: Create a Portfolio

If you have not already done so, creating a portfolio is an excellent way to put together and showcase your previous work. Gather samples of different styles of writing that you have done and prepare them to be shown to employers who may be looking for someone who can switch and utilize various styles.

Even during the time of COVID-19, there are plenty of ways to be productive and help yourself to grow in the process. Make good use of the time you have and find any opportunity you can to build your skills or better yourself, you will see all of your hard work pay off!
