The SPRA was given the opportunity to collaborate with a local non-profit, the NJCDC (New Jersey Community Development Corporation), in the spring 2016 semester. We provided the NJCDC with social media services for an upcoming event and learned a lot about digital promotion.
The NJCDC is a non-profit in Paterson that supports youth within their neighborhood through academic and extracurricular programs. They host numerous events to fund their efforts including their annual "Fore the Kids" golf tournament.
The 5th Annual NJCDC Golf Tournament at the Montclair Country Club was a hit. And we at the SPRA like to think that some of that success can be attributed to our social media promotion efforts.
The SPRA created a social media calendar for the week leading up to the event and hosted a digital countdown. We created original media for the event promos as well by using sites like Canva.
We also provide the non-profit with future ideas for promos like outlets for media coverage and considering a brand ambassador. The NJCDCs current promotion efforts consist mainly of word-of-mouth communication, so advised them to do more PR.
Our social media team also created a LinkedIn page for the event, although we had trouble gaining an audience.
This experience really helped our members to learn more about digital promotion efforts for PR, and we are excited for future opportunities to collaborate with the non-profit again!
